Frequently Asked Questions

What is FIRE?
FIRE stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early. It is a movement focused on aggressive saving and investing to retire far earlier than the traditional age. The goal is to build a corpus large enough that investment returns cover all living expenses forever.
What is the 4% rule?
The 4% rule says you can safely withdraw 4% of your corpus annually without depleting it over 30+ years. This means FIRE number = annual expenses × 25. If you need ₹12 lakh/year, you need ₹3 crore corpus.
What is the difference between Lean FIRE, Regular FIRE and FAT FIRE?
Lean FIRE targets retiring on 50% of current expenses (frugal lifestyle), Regular FIRE maintains the same lifestyle, and FAT FIRE targets 150% of current expenses for comfort and luxury. FAT FIRE requires 3× the corpus of Lean FIRE.
How can I reach FIRE in India?
Save 40–70% of income, invest in equity mutual funds via SIP, avoid lifestyle inflation and build multiple income streams. With disciplined investing and a 12% return, many people can reach FIRE in 15–20 years.
